Julie Andrews sings again

Never were the lyrics more in tune.

Julie Andrews sings "The Show Must Go On" on a disc now being released in tandem with the best-selling book "The Great American Mousical" written by Julie, daughter Emma Walton Hamilton and illustrated with their same charm by Tony Walton.

It is only the third time Julie has sung since her throat surgery in 1998: the first time was at the 50th anniversary party of my column, the second was in a scene in "The Princess Diaries II," and now, with "The Great American  Mousical."

Ian Fraser has again arranged for Julie to sing in a lower register -- and only in a range of five notes. But, they are choice!

Daughter Emma also collaborated on the song's clever lyrics with her mom. The disc will soon be available via iTunes Music Store site.

Julie says a percentage of these sales -- as well as those from the book are donated to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

She and Emma have many more books planned with the same cast of characters from "The Great American Mousical." They include: "My Fair Mouse," "The Sound of Mouse," "Hello Mousie" and many musicals by Gilbert and Sullivan.

One of Julie's earlier books, "The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles" is headed to the big screen and her PBS five-a-week series, based on the Dumpy books written with Emma and illustrated by Tony Walton is nearing reality with Julie hosting, starting next year.

And she and Emma, who heads the Bay Street Theater at Sag Harbor, are searching another play for Julie to direct following the success with "The Boy Friend."  I'm certain they'll find one -- or more.
