The Two Faces of Chevy Chase

Chevy Chase showed his comedic forte at a serious site. It was at a private screening of "The Great Warming."

Chevy made his personal appearance before word had spread about another of his appearances -- tonight on "Law & Order." In this seg he plays an actor arrested for driving under the influence. He berates the arresting officer as a "Jew-Cop" and calls her "sugar tits" -- no kidding -- as his role further compounds the Mel Gibson real life drama.

But, at the screening of "The Great Warming" both Chevy and Ed Begley Jr. were appearing as their true selves -- environmentalists. They loaned their presence to the film which boasts Keanu Reeves and Alanis Morissette as its narrators.

"The Great Warming" is not only a movie -- it is a mover. It's a galvanizer. It emphasizes the frightening fact that global warming is indeed heating up. It heightens the storm clouds started by Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth."

The film has been getting its notice thanks to -- the word from the pulpits. And now, today it hits the nation's screens -- 34 markets thanks to Regal Cinema. At the screening attended by Chase and Begley, a panel talking the film and the problem included: moderator David Waskow, director of International Programs at Friends of the Earth, Brent Blackwelder, Michael Taylor and Karen Coshof, the film's director and producer, and the Rev. Peter Kreitler, Earth Services Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles.

And furthering the thesis of the film it was made carbon neutral by Krystal Planet. Producer Coshof noted, "the acceptance of 'The Great Warming' is of special significance as the company (Regal  Cinema) generally doesn't exhibit independent documentary films. This is a testament to Regal's recognition and support of the movie's commercial viability and to the wide public interest in finding ways to reverse the degradation of the planet."

Further warnings of things to come were revealed in this week's British government report. Frightening. This movie will hopefully help move all for more action.

As producer Coshof noted after Regal decided to release it following reaction from those who'd seen DVD's sent to 200 churches around the country: "If there's anything we've learned it's that social change in America begins at the grass-roots level, in churches and synagogues where people listen to their pastors and rabbis and are moved to action."

They can be moved in movie theaters as well.
