Happy Jack
It wasn't too late on Tuesday to wish him a happy birthday. Jack Nicholson celebrated his 70th birthday Sunday -- with family -- "low key." He's feeling fine, thank you, and resuming playing golf Wednesday. He has been busy watching and/or attending golf matches and the Lakers' NBA playoffs.
He has no plans for a film to follow "The Bucket List," which he completed with Morgan Freeman. He did not participate in the TMC "Brando" docu. "What, another one?" he asked. But yes, he was "courteously" asked to be in it and he "courteously" declined. He has spoken to Roman Polanski about the DVD version of "Chinatown," their 1974 classic. Roman is now readying to film "Pompeii" -- but don't look for Jack to be in the costumer. "They haven't gotten me in a toga yet," Nicholson laughed.
After talking "Chinatown" with Jack, I phoned his costar Faye Dunaway to check her current doings. She said she's in pre-production for "Master Class" with producer Fred Roos and in which Val Kilmer will star.
And talking sports...
Shirley Jones heads to Orlando, Florida, for the tee-off of "The Pro Women's Victory Golf Tour," which debuts April 29-30. It's anticipated 18 cities will ultimately participate with a full field of 144 national and international players. Shirley will be honored for her participation in the Global Victory Foundation, which, she says, "educates young women, teaching them health values -- while being involved with the sport of golf." She will also be honored June 2, in Pittsburgh, where she receives the Richard Rodgers Award -- from Mary Rodgers.
Shirley's first film was "Oklahoma," and the CLO in Pittsburgh has asked her to be in their production -- this time as Aunt Eller. Charlotte Greenwood played it originally. Shirley's appearance on stage in "Oklahoma" marks the completion of her having played every Rodgers & Hammerstein show either on stage or in film.
