What's Cookin' -- Who's Burning Up
Wolfie is steaming. Wolfgang Puck, that is. He's had it with the arrival of "WOLFGANG'S" on Canon Dr. in Beverly Hills above a smaller sign "STEAKHOUSE" and (an even smaller sign) "Wolfgang Zwiegner."
So, Wolfgang, the "Wolfgang" all of showbiz knows and loves, filed suit today in Superior Court vs Zwiegner. A preliminary injunction hearing in L.A. Superior Court in Beverly Hills will be heard June 11 at 9 a.m. The filing lists some of the prominent names in the community as those commenting on the confusion caused by the arrival of another "Wolfgang" -- only a t-bone throw away from "Wolfie's" "Cut" steak house and his long-established "Spago." When I phoned Wolfgang -- Puck that is -- whom I have known since he was cooking in the kitchen of Patrick Terrail's Ma Maison, he said "All I want is for them (Zwiegner, that is) to change their name."
But the complaint also serves up a legal platter -- with its menu claiming "unfair competition," "trademark infringement" and, of course asking for an accounting. Soup's on.
