Cyd Charisse

Charisse_obitI haven't been to many 50th wedding anniversary parties in Hollywood--so it's easy for me to remember that celebration of Cyd Charisse and Tony Martin. It was in the exclusive upstairs party room of the old Bistro. The proverbial crème de la crème of Hollywood was on hand to dance the night away and there wasn't a dry eye in the house when Cyd and Tony took to the dance floor. Everyone of us there remembers the night. Cyd and Tony hardly looked like a couple who had been married back on May 15, 1948 -- nor did they look any less handsome and beautiful as they celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. The handsome Martins were seen dining regularly in restaurants in Beverly Hills and especially in our same Westwood neighborhood at the Hamlet Gardens.

Cyd was always the soft-spoken one -- she didn't have to say anything--she was always so beautiful you could imagine seeing her in those memorable movies. She was on hand nightly applauding Tony Martin at his two SRO appearances at Feinstein's during this past year and  manager  Stan Schneider  tells me a third date was in the process of being set for the 94 years young Martin. It would not be an easy gig for him without her in the room. And we will miss her, too.
